Bringing More Airline Service to the Flathead Valley
Why expand air service to the Flathead Valley?
We have all heard it. "We need more air service options in the Flathead Valley." Whether you travel for work, wish your children could visit more often or own a tourism-related business, the benefits of more airlines and more flights connecting us to more national hubs are clear. But getting in and out of our piece of heaven-on-earth requires planning and initiative. |
How?
Glacier AERO in partnership with Glacier Park International Airport (GPIA) incentivizes airlines to take a chance on the Flathead Valley. We partner with airlines to share the risk of adding new connections and expanding winter and shoulder season flights. Since 2007, GPIA and Glacier AERO have added six new airlines & 11 new hubs by providing Minimum Revenue Guarantees or launching ad campaigns in new markets in support of airline travel. Today there are non-stop flights to 16 national hubs on seven airlines. |

Glacier AERO Successes
American Airlines joined the four other airlines serving Glacier Park International Airport on June 6, 2019. Adding three new, daily, non-stop flights from Dallas/Fort Worth, Los Angeles and Chicago for June to October. Glacier AERO supported these new markets with marketing campaigns to promote travel to the Flathead Valley. Glacier AERO in partnership with both the Kalispell and Whitefish Convention and Visitor's Bureaus along with state and regional tourism partners created multiple print, digital and billboard campaigns. American Airlines announced that then added non-stop daily flights to LaGuardia during the 2020 season.
Summer 2021 brought an unprecedented number of new airline services to the Flathead Valley. Frontier, Jet Blue and Sun Country began seasonal flights for the first time and United Airlines added flights to Houston. Expansion of the Glacier Park International Airport in 2024 will welcome more flights. Until then, Glacier AERO will work to incentivize more winter flights to serve the Flathead Valley.

PartnersGlacier AERO is supported by over 40 local businesses and 20 private individuals. Our efforts are focused on adding winter and shoulder-season flights or expanding seasonal flights beyond just the summer months. Cooperating with Glacier Park International Airport we work to identify key travel markets with untapped potential and negotiate with prospective airlines, offering Minimum Revenue Guarantees or out-of-market marketing campaigns. These promotional activities are in partnership with Discover Kalispell, Explore Whitefish, Glacier Country Montana and the Montana Office of Tourism and Business Development.
